Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is the description of the flow rate of filtered fluid through the kidneys. The fluid is filtered from the kidneys glomerular capillaries into Bowman's capsule per unit time. Overall GFR is equal to the clearance rate when any solute is filtered but not reabsorbed or secreted by the kidneys. GFR is recorded in volume per unit time, for example, milliliters per minute (mL/min) with the formula being: GFR = [Urine Concentration multiplied by Urine Flow] / Plasma Concentration. This formula is used only when GFR Calculation is equal to clearance rate. When measured the normal range of GFR when adjusted for body surface area is 100-130ml/min/1.73m2 for adult males and females. For children the range is 110ml/min/1.73m2 until the age of 2 years.
To use the glomerular filtration rate calculator below simply change the variables to your own.
